Ever have trouble falling asleep? What about focusing? Or even relaxing?
Sometimes our thoughts run wild and we struggle with reeling them in so we can get it to do what we want it to (sleep, focus, relax!). This can create stress and frustration, at least it does for me.
Someone recommended I try out BrainWave, so I did and it has helped me so much! I use it to fall asleep, when I’m at work or studying, or when I’m reading.
What is BrainWave
The BrainWave app is designed to change your brainwave frequency to help get your brain to do what you want it to do. It uses pulsing sounds to trigger the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of the given pulse. That specific brainwave frequency puts your brain into a certain state that allows it to focus, relax, sleep, etc., whatever it is you want it to do without wandering and forcing you to reel your thoughts back in.
This app works best with right and left differentiated headphones because specific sounds are sent to specific ear buds to evoke a certain side of the brain. However, I prefer to not sleep with headphones in so I just have it playing from my phone when using the sleep programs.
How to Use BrainWave
You have a number of options when it comes to using the app so you can have it match your mood, needs, and preferences. You can save you different preferences so you can quickly select what you need.
Within the app, you can choose:
- How long it plays for. Each program has a time recommendation, however, you are able to adjust this to however long you’d like.
- The background sound. The app comes with a number of pre-loaded background sounds from nature sounds like the ocean or rain to atmospheric sounds (my personal favorite is Atmospheres: Awakening). You can also listen to music, podcasts, or audio books from Spotify and Audio Book Reader. Just open your playlist or book then open BrainWave and set the program.
- The balance between Ambience and Brainwave sounds. Adjusting the balance allows you to change how loud the background music is verse the brainwave sounds. The brainwave sounds aren’t usually noticeable unless you have the ‘Ambience’ turned down.
- One of 35 programs. Each program comes with a specific frequency associated with it to evoke the response from your brain.
